Summer in St Anton; The highlights

Oh what a summer it's been! As the summer of 2023 draws to a close, it’s time to revisit the highlights of the season.

Nowhere does tradition like St Anton and this summer we’ve enjoyed dozens of amazing celebrations, festivals & cultural events. Here’s an overview of 2023:

Bergsport Festival, St Anton
June: Mountain Sport Festival

June saw the launch of the summer program, with St Anton’s Mountain Sports Festival. Over 3 days in June, mountain sports enthusiasts enjoy guided tours, specialist courses, equipment testing, film nights, live music and a culinary market. It’s all about promoting the region, the breath taking terrain and of course, mountain sports.

Dorffest, St Anton
July: Dorffest

In July, it’s everyone’s favourite family friendly event; Dorffest. This is St Anton’s village festival; a celebration of culture, tradition & everything that gives this wonderful village it’s heart. Locals don Lederhosen & Dirndl drinking aperol in the sunshine, whilst the kids play activity stalls. Sunday is the main event when local clubs proudly take part in a parade, everyone from the Young Farmers, to the Mountain Rescue, to the Riffle Club and the Football team proudly show off their uniforms. It’s fun for everyone and a highlight of every residents summer. Check out last our highlights reel here.

Zeltfest, St Anton
August: Zeltfest

August means only one thing; Zeltfest. This is St Anton’s Big tent festival and without doubt our favourite weekend of the year. During Zeltfest you will find a giant marquee and fairground in the centre of St Anton, hosting a giant party. Marching bands, the shooting company and dignitaries from across Tirol and Vorarlberg parade, before the town moves into the tent for a spectacle of Austrian Music. Think Octoberfest, but on a smaller, family-friendly scale. It’s absolutely not to be missed. Check it out here

Almabtrieb, St Anton
September: Almabtrieb

September brings the end of the summer and that means we’re ready for the Almabtrieb. This celebration sees famers moving their cattle from the high alpine pastures into the valley, but first they are proudly paraded through the village. The tradition sees the cows decorated with flowers, wreaths & bells, as a symbol or a trouble-free summer on the mountain. The two cows that gave the most milk, and those who showed themselves as the leaders of the heard, are given a special award, adorned with the most decorative costumes and paraded in prime position at the front of the herd.

These are the summers highlights, but it doesn't end here. St Anton is proud to host many international-level sporting events, including the Montafon-Arlberg Marathon, the Tour of Austria,  the Mountain Yoga Festival and the transalpine run. There is just so much happening, so to keep up to date, please see our 'What's On' guide, here.
